BIography

Fahrettin Altun, a professor of communication sciences, earned his PhD from Istanbul University. Altun, who studied in the USA for a while, worked as a department head at Istanbul Şehir University, a faculty member at Istanbul Medeniyet University, and as a dean at Ibn Haldun University. He also served as the General Coordinator of SETA Istanbul.

He worked as a columnist and editorial director for numerous publishing houses and printed media outlets, including Sabah, Akşam, Daily Sabah, Kriter, Anlayış, Yöneliş, and Küre. He prepared news and discussion programmes for national television channels, particularly TRT 1, TRT 2, and TRT News, and appeared as a guest on many others.

Altun, whose research spans Turkish modernisation, political communication, and cultural studies, is the author of Modernleşme Kuramı (The Theory of Modernization) (2002) and Türkiye as a Stabilizing Power in an Age of Turmoil (2021). Additionally, he contributed as a chapter author and editor to books including Press Freedom in Turkey (2016), The Triumph of Turkish Democracy (2016), 15 Temmuz’da Medya (Media on July 15) (2017), Terörün Kökenleri ve Terörle Mücadele Stratejisi (Origins of Terrorism and Counterterrorism Strategy) (2018), and Toplumlar Arası İletişimde Yeni Dönem: Enformasyon Savaşından Dezenformasyon Savaşına (A New Era in Inter-Societal Communication: From Information War to Disinformation War) (2023).

Prof Fahrettin Altun was appointed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as the Presidency's Head of Communications on July 25, 2018.
