President Erdoğan’s message on “Mecca Joint Defence Agreement”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan shared a post on his Nsosyal account regarding the “Mecca Joint Defence Agreement.”

President Erdoğan noted the following in his post:

“Today, we visited Makkah al-Mukarramah in response to the kind invitation extended by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia.

During my visit, I met with my dear brothers, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan.

On this occasion, the three countries signed a Joint Defence Agreement.

Based on collective deterrence, this agreement will contribute to advancing our security and defence cooperation, developing joint projects in the defence industry, and combating terrorism.

The agreement, which also reaffirms the right of self-defence as defined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, targets no country and is open to the participation of all brotherly countries that seek the peace, prosperity and stability of our region.

In line with our vision of regional ownership, Türkiye will continue to pursue its principled stance with determination, aimed at resolving conflicts and crises through dialogue and diplomacy, on the basis of respect for international law.

I pray to Almighty Allah that our visit, our consultations and the agreement we signed will be auspicious for our entire region.”
