President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran at the request of the Iranian side.
During the call, President Erdoğan stressed the need to open the door to diplomacy, and noted that Türkiye is exerting efforts to achieve this.
Saying that Türkiye doesn’t approve of unlawful interventions against Iran and Iran’s targeting of the brotherly countries in the region, President Erdoğan stated that targeting the brotherly countries benefits no one and that these must all stop.
Pointing out that Türkiye is being adversely affected by a conflict it is not party to, President Erdoğan underscored that violation of the Turkish airspace, for whatever reason, cannot be excused and that Türkiye will continue to take all the necessary measures against such violations.
President Erdoğan said that Türkiye is deeply saddened by the loss of lives, particularly the children killed in the school attack in Minab.
Reiterating his condolences for the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, President Erdoğan expressed his wish for the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader to lead to peace in the region.
President Pezeshkian of Iran, for his part, stated that the missiles that entered the Turkish airspace were not of Iranian origin, and that the issue will be thoroughly investigated.
