President Erdoğan, Pope Francis talk over phone

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with Pope Francis.

During the conversation in which Israel’s attacks against Palestine were discussed, President Erdoğan stated that an atrocity was taking place in Palestine, and that Israel’s attacks concerned not only the Palestinians but all the Muslims, all the Christians and the entire humanity.

Underscoring that the occupying Israel, which prevented access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, restricted freedom of worship and massacred innocent civilians in the Palestinian lands, was also trampling on human dignity, President Erdoğan noted that this atrocity for which Israel was responsible threatened the regional security as well.

President Erdoğan said Israel’s unlawful and inhumane practices, which also violated Al-Quds’ status, must be immediately put to an end, and that the entire humanity should join hands against the occupying Israel which recklessly attacked the sacred.

"The Security Council has yet to display the required awareness of responsibility"

Pointing out that the international community should give Israel the deterrent reaction and lesson it deserved and take concrete steps to that end, President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye devoted all its efforts to that aim and was carrying out intensive diplomacy efforts in all relevant international platforms, the United Nations in particular, but that the Security Council had yet to display the required awareness of responsibility.

Further stressing that the Palestinians would continue to be massacred unless the international community punished Israel, which had been committing a crime against humanity, with due sanctions, President Erdoğan highlighted the great importance of the messages and reactions Pope Francis would continue to give in terms of mobilizing the Christian world and the international community.
