President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the re-opening of the recently-restored New Mosque in Istanbul.
Noting that the construction of the New Mosque was started by Safiye Sultan, who was the wife of Sultan Murad III, and was completed in 1665 by Hatice Turhan Sultan, mother of Sultan Mehmed IV, President Erdoğan said: “The restoration of the New Mosque, a place of worship for millions for nearly 358 years, began in 2016.”
Thanking everyone who contributed to the restoration efforts, President Erdoğan inaugurated the newly-restored mosque following prayers by Istanbul Mufti Safi Arpaguş.
