President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan agreed during a phone call on Monday to develop a roadmap for deepening their bilateral relations, particularly in the defence sector.
In a statement on social media, President Lula said, "We agreed to establish a Strategic Council at the vice-presidential level to develop a roadmap for deepening bilateral relations," and emphasised that both leaders celebrated the "recent ratification" of the Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement reached by Ankara and Brasília.
The President of Brazil said, "I reaffirmed that Brazil aims to expand its investments in the defence sector and is interested in promoting cooperation between Brazilian and Turkish companies in this sector."
During the call, President Lula pledged to send a Brazilian delegation to Türkiye led by Defence Minister José Múcio and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services Márcio Elias Rosa.
Lastly, the Latin American leader noted that he had been invited by his Turkish counterpart to attend the COP31climate change conference scheduled for next November. President Lula concluded by saying, "I thanked him, accepted the invitation, and expressed my desire to meet with him soon."
