With the contributions of our strategic partnership decision, we aim to realize new projects in many areas such as energy, trade, transportation and defense industry in the period ahead.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada held a joint press conference following their tête-à-tête, the meeting between the delegations and the signing ceremony of agreements at the Presidential Complex.
“We hope to increase our bilateral trade volume to $10 Billion”
Voicing his great pleasure over hosting Canadian Prime Minister Carney and his delegation in Türkiye, President Erdoğan stated that they have thoroughly addressed the two countries’ bilateral relations as well as regional and global matters, and said: “Undoubtedly, our decision to elevate our relations with Canada to the level of strategic partnership constitutes one of the most concrete outcomes of this visit. With the contributions of our strategic partnership decision, we aim to realize new projects in many areas such as energy, trade, transportation and defense industry in the period ahead. Today, we have also approved an action plan, which includes the concrete steps we will take to that end.”
President Erdoğan added that with the steps they will take, they hope to increase the bilateral trade volume, which currently stands at some $3 billion, to $5 billion at the first stage, and then to $10 billion.
“We expect DSR Bank to support our countries' defense industry cooperation”
Underscoring that they are in close contact with Canada in the areas of defense industry and nuclear energy, President Erdoğan noted that they are two allies that are well aware of the importance of defense industry cooperation, and went on to say: “We expect the Defense, Security and Resilience Bank, which is being founded under the leadership of Canada to fund the defense industries of allies, to support the defense industry cooperation between our countries. There is a wide range of cooperation areas in the field of energy, from mining to LNG, from critical minerals to nuclear energy.”
“We hope that diplomatic methods will pave the way for lasting peace”
Further stressing that they have also addressed many regional developments, including Gaza, Ukraine and the Gulf region, during today’s talks, President Erdoğan said: “We hope that diplomatic methods will pave the way for lasting peace in both Ukraine and the Gulf. We have reaffirmed that we are of the same opinion at this point. We regard Canada’s and some other allies’ steps for sanctions against occupying settlements as an accurate step in terms of the deterrence of the violations of the Israeli government. We hope that they will maintain their stance in this regard for the establishment of peace and stability in our region.”
Describing their decision to elevate the relations between Türkiye and Canada to the level of strategic partnership as a historic step, President Erdoğan added that they have launched a very important process to really realize their cooperation potential in a wide range of areas.
