Presidency’s Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, speaks at the panel titled “From Zero Waste to COP31: Türkiye’s Climate Diplomacy”:

Climate challenges are transboundary in nature. These challenges have long since grown beyond what countries can address with their national resources alone. This is precisely why we use the term “climate diplomacy”.

Addressing these challenges requires international policies that strike a balance between countries’ sovereign rights and their global responsibilities. We must not overlook the need for social justice among countries.

Our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2053 demonstrates our determination to combat the climate crisis.

The transformation of the Zero Waste approach championed by First Lady Emine Erdoğan into a global norm has given Türkiye a distinctive source of soft power in climate diplomacy.

Türkiye’s vision for COP31 is built on restoring trust through dialogue and translating commitments into tangible results on the ground.

Guided by the vision of a “COP of the Future”, our aim is to help turn climate pledges into measurable and lasting action.
