Türkiye’s İstanbul will host the 49th session of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 2027.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye said in a statement on Tuesday (28 July) that the Committee took the decision unanimously during its 48th session, currently being held in Busan, the Republic of Korea. The next session is scheduled to take place from 27 June to 7 July 2027.
The statement added that hosting this upcoming event would significantly enhance Türkiye's presence at UNESCO, contribute to cultural diplomacy, and showcase the nation's cultural and natural heritage.
In this context, Türkiye's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Ambassador Mustafa Yurdakul, has assumed the presidency of the 49th session. It should be noted that 22 sites in Türkiye are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
