In a statement released on Saturday, the Presidency's Directorate of Communications of the Republic of Türkiye announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Emmanuel Macron of France held a telephone call focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional and international developments.

During the conversation, Erdoğan emphasised the importance of advancing cooperation between Ankara and Paris across all areas, especially in the defence industry, which would benefit both countries.

The leaders also discussed the repercussions of the escalation triggered by attacks on Iran, with President Erdoğan noting that these developments have adversely affected the global environment and underlining the key role of diplomatic efforts supported by Türkiye and other countries in achieving a ceasefire.

The President of Türkiye stressed the need to protect the truce, warning that initiatives which could “sabotage the ceasefire process” must not be allowed, particularly in reference to attacks on Lebanon.

President Erdoğan affirmed that Ankara will remain engaged in efforts to maintain regional stability and highlighted the importance of advancing to the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, stressing that the momentum achieved should not be lost.

The leaders further discussed ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, developments in Syria, support for peace in the Caucasus, and efforts to revive negotiations between Ukraine and Russia for lasting peace.
