President Erdoğan ranks among leaders most followed on social media

According to research conducted by an Italian foundation that analyses digital data, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is among the leaders most followed on social media.

According to an Italian ANSA news story based on the Digital Italy Foundation's "digital observation" report, the social media accounts of 24 heads of state or government were analysed in the research based on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

The most followed world leaders on social media, according to this study, are President Joe Biden of the US, President Erdoğan, and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.

One of the Digital Observatory Foundation's officials, Sandro Giorgetti, said in his statement, "When it comes to the three social media platforms that leaders use the most, Biden stands out with over 66 million followers, followed by President Erdoğan with over 40 million followers, and Zelensky with over 27 million followers. Because of the public attention generated by the Ukrainian conflict, Zelensky has more international followers than the other two leaders."

Giorgetti noted that President Erdoğan and Zelensky have loyal followers and that each piece of content they publish creates a separate fan base, and that President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil is also one of the most active heads of state who posts the most content on social media.

It was reported that these leaders were followed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the UK, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy.

Francesco Di Costanzo, the foundation's president, stated that their new research emphasises the importance of dedicated and careful management of the major social media platforms, both for a winning strategy at the national and international levels, as well as success in direct communication with citizens.
