The Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye released a statement reporting that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye spoke over the phone with President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran.
During the call, Erdoğan stressed the urgent need to open diplomatic channels amid the current situation and affirmed Türkiye’s ongoing efforts in this regard.
Erdoğan pointed out that unlawful interventions directed at Iran, as well as strikes by Iran against its brotherly neighbours, are not acceptable, underscoring the necessity for these actions to come to an end.
Erdoğan reiterated that any violation of Türkiye’s airspace, irrespective of the justification, is inexcusable and affirmed that Türkiye will continue to take all necessary countermeasures.
Erdoğan expressed deep sorrow for all casualties, including the children killed in the strike on a girls’ school in Minab, and hoped that Mojtaba Khamenei’s appointment as Iran’s new religious leader would contribute to peace and stability in the region.
For his part, Pezeshkian stated that the missile that entered Turkish airspace was not of Iranian origin, adding that the authorities would be launching a thorough investigation into the matter.
