President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye announced that Ankara would take "symbolic steps" in the process of normalising relations with Yerevan next year.
On Tuesday, at a conference in Ankara attended by Turkish ambassadors, Erdoğan said in a speech broadcast on local TV channels, "Azerbaijan and Armenia are closer than ever to signing a peace agreement. We, in dialogue with Azerbaijan, are advancing our own normalisation process with Armenia. Hopefully, we will be taking some symbolic steps starting from the beginning of next year."
