The National Security Council (NSC) convened on 6 August 2026 under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye.
During the meeting;
1. The Council was briefed on the activities that have been carried out with determination, resolve, and success at home and abroad against all types of threats and dangers to our national unity and solidarity, as well as our survival, including the terrorist organisations PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and DAESH, along with recent international developments.
2. Progress made towards achieving the objectives of a ‘Terror-Free Türkiye’ and a ‘Terror-Free Region’ was addressed; and discussions were held on the next stages of the efforts constituting a historic milestone towards safeguarding the security, stability, and prosperity of our country and our region.
3. On the tenth anniversary of the national resistance against the treacherous coup attempt of 15 July, the current state of the fight against FETO was discussed, and it was noted that measures aimed at the complete elimination of the treacherous network would be continued with the utmost diligence.
4. It was indicated that the NATO Summit, successfully hosted by our country, marked a critical milestone for the future of the Alliance, and Türkiye’s constructive approach to sharing the advanced capabilities and resources it has developed with its allies was reaffirmed.
5. Attention was drawn to the risks and threats posed by the renewed clashes between Iran and the US spreading to countries in the region and global trade routes; and all parties were called upon to refrain from the use of force and to return to negotiations aimed at establishing a lasting peace.
6. It was emphasised that the strategic impasse in the Russia–Ukraine War cannot be resolved by turning neighbouring regions, particularly the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, into theatres of conflict; and the warring parties were called upon to reduce the mounting tension in the region and to take concrete steps towards establishing peace.
7. It was underlined that the multi-faceted cooperation developed with our neighbours, Syria and Iraq, is of great importance for the security, peace and prosperity of our region; and it was stated that Türkiye will continue to render the utmost contribution to processes aimed at strengthening regional solidarity.
8. It was emphasised that the international community must adopt a clear and uncompromising stance in the face of the ongoing ceasefire violations by the Israeli administration despite the progress made recently under the Gaza Peace Plan, its escalation of settler terrorism in Palestinian territories, and its continued provocative attacks on holy sites, particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
